You do not need a degree in trend forecasting to benefit from working with the theories and tools of trends research. Trends research helps us connect with people, sectors, and ideas we know little about, expanding our knowledge and keeping our fingers on the pulse of the world.
We like to take the teach-a-person-to-fish approach to every project we work on and every class we give. The lectures, quizzes, and workbook in this course aim to provide practical ways of understanding trends and demonstrate how working with trends is useful and engaging. Hence our title, Using Trends as your Thinking Partner.
Introduction to the Art and Industry of Trends is a self-paced course that provides an overview of the basic tenets of trends research and a glimpse into the forecasting industry whose agile and dynamic methods and tools can add notable value to your work, enhance your skill set, hone your trend radar, and also are fun to practice.
Think of Part 1 as the structure of the building in the dwelling you will create to house your learnings. In subsequent courses, we will build onto this structure, enhancing its capabilities and functions. Or to be less metaphorical, Part 1 is the base needed to jumpstart your understanding of trends and how they are used.
Learning about trends is an amazing journey that will open your mind, broaden your horizons, and add tools to your multilayered toolbox. This course is useful for those curious about how trends form, propagate, and how they are harnessed for innovation and inspiration. It demystifies the trend forecasting industry and the fascinating work of trend researchers. You do not need to be in the creative industries or have any knowledge of them to take the course. We offer compelling examples and resources across all fields in this course. Even though our work is more often than not in fashion, we have applied and taught these tools and research methods in diverse industries such as beauty, food, hospitality, interior design, media, mobility, technology, and wellness.
